TOURNAMENT RuleS

Introduction 

The Legendary Women’s Cup is a destination soccer experience, created for women, by women! Tucson Adult Soccer League is the organizing body for the Legendary Women’s Cup (the “LWC”).

Eligibility 

This tournament is open to female players who meet the age requirements listed below. Age is determined by your birth year. Players must be individually registered on the tournament website to be listed on an official team roster. 

For division(s) allowing players under the age requirements, please contact us at legendarywomenscup@gmail.com to get instructions on how to add those players to a team roster. 

Divisions: 

Open: ages 18+, Masters: ages 30+, Icons: ages 40+, Trailblazers: ages 50+, Pioneers: ages 60+, Legends: ages 70+, up to two (2) players aged 68 or older permitted*, 

Kick Start: ages 18+. Soccer for beginners. 

Modified Soccer: ages 18+ (aka Walking soccer). Soccer without running or contact. 

All registered players must download a valid picture ID for check-in during your registration process. Players without a valid picture ID will NOT be allowed to play. 

Any player who violates the event’s check-in procedure by entering the field of play without being properly registered with that particular team shall be removed from the game and cautioned (shown the yellow card) by the referee. After being removed, cautioned, and checked in, the player can subsequently re-enter the game at the next substitution opportunity. 

Format 

All divisions will be played as scheduled, round robin or pool play, followed by finals if applicable 

Teams are guaranteed four (4) games, with at least two (2) games scheduled each day on Saturday and Sunday. Developmental division and Modified soccer are scheduled one game a day Thur-Sun. 

All games shall be conducted in accordance with the most recent USSF/FIFA Laws of the Game, except for the Legendary Women’s Cup Rules of Competition as noted below 

Small-sided divisions (7v7 and 8v8) will use a reduced field and adjusted rules appropriate to the format. 

Standings will be determined by a 10-point system: 

● Win = 6 points 

● Tie = 3 points 

● Loss = 0 points 

● Shutout = 1 point 

● Goals scored = 1 point each, up to 3 points maximum per game 

Tie-breakers for final results (applied in order below for teams with equal points): 

● Head-to-head result 

● Goal differential 

● Goals scored 

● Fewest goals allowed 

● Least amount of Yellow and red cards 

● Coin toss 

Rules of Competition 

Team jerseys must match in color and style and each one must have a unique permanent number. No duplicate numbers or taped on numbers. 

If a team does not have a 2nd jersey to change into in case of a color conflict with an opponent, pinnies can be borrowed from the tournament. They must be checked out and turned back in as a 

complete set. 

The goalkeeper’s jersey must be a different color from either teams’ jersey. 

Shinguards are required, no exceptions. 

Per FIFA Laws of the Game. Law 4. The Player’s Equipment and Safety: No jewelry allowed. No metal and/or plastic hair clips. No hard casts allowed. Medical bracelets need to be taped to the wrist. 

Soccer balls will be supplied by the tournament for each game and must be returned to the referee at the completion of the match. 

A coin toss will determine the start of the game. The winner of the coin toss can either start with the ball or choose which side they would like to attack from. 

Substitutions. This tournament allows unlimited substitutions on any dead ball with the referee’s permission. Substitutes MUST enter the field at the halfway line and only enter the field once the substituted player has left the field, or if a member of the referee crew permits earlier entry. The substituted player may exit the field at any location. 

NO SLIDE TACKLING: Slide tackling is NOT allowed and will result in a direct free kick for the opposing team and may result in a misconduct (yellow or red card, depending upon the degree of danger to or contact with the opponent) for the player who committed the slide tackle. Sliding in an open area with no other players around is allowed. The goalkeeper is the only player allowed to slide tackle near an opponent, provided it is done within the penalty area and in a manner that does not pose a danger to the opponent or herself. 

Goalkeeper's Handling Time: A goalkeeper now has a maximum of eight seconds to release the ball after gaining control. The referee will visually signal the final five seconds of the time limit by raising their hand. If a goalkeeper exceeds the eight-second limit, the opposing team will be awarded a corner kick. 

Field Conduct: Referees are the authority on the field and must always be respected. Referees will track yellow and red cards. For the referee to keep better control of the game, all teams must observe the following: 

1. While the ball is in play, no coach/manager, player, or spectator shall interfere or approach the Referee or an Assistant Referee. 

2. Children must be supervised at ALL times. Children are required to stay off the field of play. 

3. If the Referee feels they cannot control the game for the safety of the players, they have the right to terminate the game. If the game is terminated after the first half is completed, it is considered a full game. 

11v11 Rules: 

1. 11v11 games are 40-minute halves with a 5-minute halftime. Teams should be ready to restart play when half-time is over. The clock will start at the end of half-time, even if the teams are not prepared to start 

2. A minimum of seven (7) players is require 

3. If a team cannot field at least seven (7) players within ten minutes of game time, the game is a forfeit with points awarded to the complete team. A scrimmage may be played. 

Small-Sided Rules: 

1. Small-sided (7v7 & 8v8) games are 30-minute halves with a 5-minute halftime. A minimum 4 for (7v7) and 5 for (8v8) players are required to start a game. 

2. Teams should be ready to restart play when half-time is over. The clock will start at the end of half-time, even if the teams are not prepared to start. 

3. There is no offside in small-sided divisions. 

4. Goals can only be scored within the attacking half. 

5. Keepers may NOT punt the ball. If this occurs, the opponent will receive an indirect free kick outside the penalty area. 

6. Goal kicks and all indirect kicks can be played the length of the pitch. 

7. Opponents must give at least six feet (2 yards) to allow the ball to be put back into play from any restart. 

8. Penalty kicks will be taken at the top of the goalkeeper's area. All other players must line up at midfield and may advance toward the ball once it has been played 

Conduct 

ALL FORMS OF VIOLENT CONDUCT AND SERIOUS FOUL PLAY WILL WARRANT AUTOMATIC EJECTION WITH NO WARNINGS GIVEN. Send-offs (receiving a red card or two yellow cards in one game) will warrant automatic ejection of said player from the playing field. Spectator violent conduct will warrant the automatic ejection of said person from the vicinity of the playing field. The match will be SUSPENDED while the player or spectator leaves the premises. If an ejected player or spectator does not leave the premises within two (2) minutes, the match can be TERMINATED. 

1. Any player, coach/manager, who is ejected from a game will be reported to the LWC Event Discipline and Rule Committee for disciplinary action. 

2. Players guilty of Violent Conduct are subject to termination from the LWC Event upon review by the D&R Committee. 

3. Any player removed from a game must leave the playing field immediately. 

4. Cautions (Yellow Cards) and Sendoffs (Red Cards) are administered in accordance with Law 12, Fouls and Misconduct. The LWC Event D&R Committee will review these incidents to determine if further disciplinary action is necessary. 

5. If a player receives two (2) yellows on the same day, that player will earn a one (1) game suspension the following day. 

No coach/manager, player, or spectator shall: 

1. Threaten an official or another player, coach/manager, or spectator; 

2. Lay a hand upon, shove, or strike an official or another player, coach/manager, or spectator; 

3. Be guilty of objectionable demonstrations or verbal dissent at an official’s decision; 

4. Refuse to abide by the official’s decision 

5. Physically or verbally attack any player, official, coach/manager, or spectator. 

Field Marshals and 4th Officials have the authority to give warnings to players, substitutes, and spectators, and suspend/eject if necessary. The Field Marshal or 4th Official reserves the right to make the final decision in all matters if the referee is incapacitated. 

Referees 

All matches will be officiated by USSF referees assigned by the tournament organizers 

11v11 matches will use three (3) referees (center referee and two assistant referees) 

Small-sided matches (7v7 and 8v8) will use one (1) referee 

The decisions of the referees are final 

Safety & Facilities 

All players, coaches, and spectators are required to adhere to the facilities rules and regulations. Lightning and Unsafe Field Policy: Games will be played unless the referee determines that the field is unsafe because lightning is too close to the field. 

First Aid: A first aid station with basic supplies will be available on match days. 

Awards 

Players on teams that place in each division will receive individual prizes. The maximum number of prizes provided will be: 

● Up to 18 prizes per team in 11v11 divisions 

● Up to 12 prizes per team in small-sided divisions (7v7 and 8v8) 

Refunds 

Refund requests for team fees must be submitted by the team manager to 

legendarywomenscup@gmail.com 

Individual player refund requests must be requested by the player by emailing legendarywomenscup@gmail.com 

Refunds are subject to approval. No refunds will be issued after one week prior to the first day of the tournament. Credit card/system management fees will not be refunded. 

Changes 

The tournament organizers reserve the right to make changes to the schedule, format, rules, or field assignments as necessary. Any updates will be communicated to team managers and posted on the official tournament website. https://www.legendarywomenscup.com
